White Poinsettia Christmas Cookie Platter

by Lora Wiley-Lennartz

I made a red version of this last year. It was such a hit, I had to make another. And of course I had to experiment with colors.

The idea comes from the brilliant Sweet SugarBelle. It’s so simple to make but the wow effect is big. This cookie platter is a perfect homemade seasonal gift or a centerpiece for your holiday dessert table.

You just use your favorite roll out cookie dough. I used a sugar cooke recipe but gingerbread or chocolate spice versions are also great flavors for the holidays.

You could also switch it up and use more than one dough flavor to created the petals of the poinsettia.

Like Sugarbelle, I put a touch of green food coloring into the snow white royal icing because I really love the effect. Gold Dragees were pushed into the icing in the center cookie.

A few of the whites petals were doused with coarse white sanding sugar and I disco dusted the tips of the rest of the petals.

This is a great make ahead dessert for a holiday party. The dough, cookies and icing can all be made in the days before. But beware, the Royal icing needs 24 hours to dry properly.
