Everyday Whole-Grain Bread – October’s King Arthur Flour Bakealong & Bake For Good

by Lora Wiley-Lennartz

This is the third challenge since King Arthur Flour launched their Bakealong and I’m having so much fun baking along with their wonderful monthly recipes. This month in particular has been especially exciting.

For October, the company is sponsoring a Bake For Good challenge. Pledge to bake something and share it with someone in your community, King Arthur Flour will send you a flour coupon and donate the cost of one meal to Feeding America. Share a picture of your creation on social media using #bakeforgood.

As for the recipe challenge, I definitely need help and practice in the bread baking department. So although last month’s Inside Out Pumpkin muffins were scrumptious and delicious, I was happy to see this everyday whole-grain bread as October’s challenge.

Made with both white and white whole wheat flour, this bread is thick and hearty. So far I have used slices for sandwiches, smeared pieces with avocado and smothered others separately in jam and Nutella.

That’s the thing. This bread goes pairs well with everything, savory and sweet. The recipe makes two large loaves. We kept one and gave the other to a neighbor. The detailed recipe can be found here.

In addition to the recipe, King Arthur Flour also posts an extremely helpful step by step walkthrough with tips and dietary adaptations. If you have time, jump on this Bakealong train. Learning new techniques was never so much fun.
