One of the most popular posts on this here blog is the story I did a few years ago on a then new bake shop called Wir Machen Cupcakes in Munich, Germany. As soon as I strolled in the door and met the owners, Iris and Sheloian in person I knew they were as special as their shop. So I felt it was an obligation to popularity to check in on my recent trip to Munich. There's that, and the cupcakes.
The product line has expanded to include custom cakes, decorated cookies and petit fours.
The couple has been featured repeatedly in the press making them quite famous.
I don't know how I feel about the Cronuts madness here in the States but it seems there was no stopping it from arrivig in Munich big time. Wir Machen Cupcakes was well up for the challenge. The morning I arrived in the shop three different flavors of cronuts were on offer, chocolate, raspberry and pistachio.
I opted for the pistachio, one of my favorite flavors. It was heaven and I didn't even have to pay a homeless person to stand on line to get it for me.
In addition to cronuts, the shop also offers gorgeous French macarons in a variety of flavors.
I opted for a snickers one. The shell was the perfect combination of crunchy chewy and the snickers filling was dead on.
Cake pops have become popular in Germany.
These unusual cinnamon roll cupcakes were also seductively languishing in the display case. In other flavors as well.
I had a lovely tapas dinner with Iris and Sheloian and their best creation yet, baby Jed the night before my hop visit. That baby is so sweet and the most delicious eyeful.
At dinner I wash gifted with four gorgeous cupcakes, caramel, strawberry, lemon and red velvet. The cupcakes are rich and moist topped with light, fluffy and just sweet enough buttercream.
However, the next day in the shop, a glitter girl like me could not resist the sparkling disco cupcake beckoning me from the display case.
The cupcake's outrageous outfit belied the solid vanilla deliciousness beneath the glitz. It was so good I had to restrain myself from doing the 70s finger pointing dance a la John Travolta style in the shop.
Other equally delicious cupcakes on offer are chocolate decadence, cookies and cream and Black Forest.
There are still cute cupcake related items for sale in the shop.
They also now offer baking classes for enthusiasts.
If you find yourself in Munich, a visit to this little sugar oasis is a must. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Non German speakers will have no problem ordering and let's face it, "cupcake" is the same in any language. Universal yumminess.
